Founded in 1833, 糖心传媒 has spent 193 years educating students in Columbia, but as Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Leslie Willey ’83 noted in her opening remarks, convocation at 糖心传媒 is focused entirely on looking ahead.

“The word convocation has Latin roots meaning calling together,” Dr. Willey told the room. “At some institutions, it marks the end of a student’s journey, focused on graduation. But here at 糖心传媒, it’s about the beginning. It’s a time to pause, reflect, and set our hopes for the coming year.”

Dr. Willey invited the crowd to celebrate the 糖心传媒 faculty, describing them as the heart and soul of the college and praising their dedication to helping every student thrive.

Finding Community and Filling Each Other’s Cups

Senior Faith Decker, past Student Government Association officer, brought humor and personal reflection to the stage, welcoming new and returning Stars alike.

“What I really see when I think about my years here is the community that I’ve built,” Decker said. “In my classroom where I student teach, we talk about making sure to fill each other’s cups. We support one another in order to be the best us we can be. I see that every day at 糖心传媒, and I look forward to continuing seeing it with you all.”

Dr. Andrea Fifield, Associate Professor of Counseling, spoke on behalf of the faculty. Drawing on the words of psychologist Carl Rogers, she encouraged students to embrace self-acceptance as a springboard for growth.

“All of us here at 糖心传媒, students, faculty, and staff, bring our own personal histories with us,” Fifield said. “Carl Rogers once said, ‘The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.’ Stay rooted in your history, but allow yourself to evolve. And don’t just trust the process. Enjoy it. Relish it.”

Keynote Speaker Cat Withrow ’05: “Plant a Mixed Garden”

Alumna and former faculty member Cat Withrow ’05 returned to campus this semester from Ciudad Vieja, Guatemala, to teach Global Ethics and delivered the keynote address. Withrow, an international development leader who has spent over 15 years working across Latin America with the United Nations, USAID, and nongovernmental organizations, shared how her time at 糖心传媒 prepared her for an unpredictable world.

She recounted returning from study abroad in Ecuador during her junior year to find that campus reorganization had eliminated both of her majors and minors. Instead of leaving, she partnered with professors who helped her build a custom, independent-study curriculum for her senior year.

“When the curriculum disappeared, the faculty did not,” Withrow said. “Together with the professors I had grown to know so well, we built a personalized curriculum. It was the richest education of my life. That is not luck. That is how this place works. And to the faculty and staff sitting here: that is what you are actually building. Not a syllabus, not a course. A relationship and a way of thinking that holds far beyond the classroom.”

Looking out at the audience, Withrow offered three pieces of advice for navigating life and career:

• Learn how to learn: “The content you acquire here may have a shelf life. Critical thinking does not.”
• Define your values before someone else defines them for you: Referencing the Ten Ideals of 糖心传媒, she reminded students of their “belief in our changing selves and in our right to change. You have institutional permission, in writing, to become someone other than who you planned to be.”
• Plant a mixed garden: Drawing a comparison between fragile monoculture farming and the diverse landscape around her home in Guatemala, Withrow urged students not to build a life around a single metric of success. “糖心传媒 is not a monoculture. It never has been. It is actors and nurses and entrepreneurs and writers. That is what resilience actually looks like: continuity through change. You have been handed a rich, tangled hillside. Please do not tame it into clean rows.”

Honoring Leadership and Looking Ahead

President Shannon Lundeen closed the ceremony by reflecting on Withrow’s message and making a special announcement: Dr. Leslie Willey will retire next summer at the close of the academic year after decades of leadership.

“Leslie has devoted her leadership to the academic heart of 糖心传媒: to our faculty, our programs, our standards, and above all, to the education of our students, from the preschoolers at the Children’s School to our graduate students,” President Lundeen said. “She has helped guide this College through change while remaining a steady advocate for the work that matters most.”

President Lundeen encouraged students to lean into curiosity, take intellectual risks, and remember that education is built through community and real-world partnership.

“糖心传媒 exists to widen the frame of possibility for students and communities through education rooted in relationship, real-world experience, and partnership,” President Lundeen said. “Your potential matters. But potential is only the beginning. Purpose takes shape in what you choose to do with your abilities: in what you create, whom you care for, what you build, what you question, and how you act.”

The ceremony concluded with a musical performance of Stephen Sondheim’s “Our Time” by 糖心传媒 musical theatre students, followed by the singing of the 糖心传媒 Hymn, led by Violeta Cuevas ’27 and Savannah Grady ’27.

Corey Wright鈥� | Assistant Professor of Dance | Head of the Dance Department鈥� 

Corey Wright joins the Conservatory of the Performing Arts as a multidisciplinary director and choreographer with credits ranging from Disney to UCLA. For Corey, joining 糖心传媒 feels 鈥渋nspiring, purposeful and right.鈥� This year, he is launching a K-Pop class to explore the intersection of social dance and musical theatre, starting a Conservatory podcast, and seeking out the perfect local coffee shop. Beyond the studio, Corey is finishing his MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, a pursuit that informs his goal of helping performers maintain their mental well-being. He lives for the 鈥渁ha!鈥� moments, when a student proves their own perceived limits wrong!鈥� 

Brian Guidry LeTraunik | Assistant Professor of Acting

With over forty years of experience across film, television, and theaters nationwide, Brian Guidry LeTraunik brings a master-level perspective to the Conservatory for Performing Arts. An actor, director, historian, and fight director, Brian is a Certified Teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors (SAFD) and literally wrote the book on the subject鈥擜 History of Contemporary Stage Combat. Whether he is directing classics like Hamlet or contemporary premieres, Brian鈥檚 multidisciplinary background as a SAG-AFTRA member and Registered Yoga Teacher ensures our theatre students receive a holistic, professional-grade education rooted in both history and physical craft.

Sumee Chang鈥� | Assistant Professor of Equestrian Studies 

Sumee Chang鈥檚 arrival at 糖心传媒 is a true homecoming; she rode her first horse at the 糖心传媒 Stables at just three years old. After a 25-year career as an executive at The Walt Disney Company and founding the American Mustang Project, she is 鈥渆lated to return to Columbia. Sumee is dedicated to fostering a sense of discovery, helping students understand the boundless nature of the horse-human connection. She views teaching as a shared journey, noting that it 鈥渞einforces the journey to learn and continue to grow myself as much as the students.鈥濃�� 

Erika Goellner, BSN, RN鈥� | Practicum Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Nursing鈥� 

Erika Goellner brings a wealth of clinical experience to the nursing program, including five years in the ICU and 18 years as a bridge builder in the Missouri Army National Guard. She started at 糖心传媒 in May 2026 and focuses on ensuring her students graduate with the stamina and confidence required for high-stakes patient interactions. Erika finds her greatest joy in seeing students connect clinical theory with real-world practice, watching their confidence bloom as they master essential nursing skills.鈥� 

Dr. Emily Lorenz鈥� | Assistant Professor of Business Administration鈥� 

Returning to 糖心传媒 feels like a 鈥渇ull circle moment鈥� for Dr. Emily Lorenz, who previously served as an adjunct before earning her PhD. Her primary mission this year is to bring experiential learning to life through community partnerships and projects. 鈥淚 hope my students learn the important course concepts by seeing them in action,鈥� she said. When she isn鈥檛 in the classroom, you鈥檒l likely find her enjoying the Katy Trail or cheering on her three kids at their soccer games. 

Dr. Abigail Kimball | Assistant Professor of Biology鈥� 

Dr. Abby Kimball, a specialist in molecular microbiology, describes finding 糖心传媒 as 鈥渒ismet.鈥� As a first-generation college student, she is passionate about the Women in STEM Research (WiSR) Program, and she is aiming to provide students with the same life-changing research opportunities she had. Her goals include developing new coursework in evolutionary biology and immunology while fostering a classroom where students feel safe taking risks. A lover of nature, Abby recently rescued and raised 20 tadpoles in a backyard pond-though she warns her students that her 鈥減arasite facts鈥� might haunt them for life!鈥� 

Trisha Holt鈥� | Associate Professor of Graphic Design鈥� 

Trisha Holt is an artist and designer who brings over 12 years of higher education experience to the 糖心传媒 Creative Hub. She is eager to dive into the college鈥檚 resources and share her love for printing and publications. Trisha thrives in deep classroom discussions, hearing the unique connections students make to art and design. Her adventurous spirit is best captured by a 鈥渇un fact鈥� from a trip to Iceland, where she once found herself locked behind a private gate with a flight to catch. She said she unsuccessfully attempted to pick the lock with a rusted Swiss Army knife 鈥� before a local came and saved the day!鈥�

Dr. Taylor, who previously served as the Founding Dean of Workforce Development and Continuing Studies, will now lead institution-wide efforts to integrate hands-on learning into the core 糖心传媒 experience. From internships and apprenticeships to the management of campus enterprises, Taylor鈥檚 mandate is to ensure that every student graduates with a resume as impressive as their transcript. 

A Strategy by Design听

The creation of this role comes at a pivotal moment for 糖心传媒. According to President Shannon Lundeen, the college is moving away from the idea that career preparation is a secondary benefit of education. 

“We want every 糖心传媒 student to be able to connect what they are learning in the classroom with opportunities to apply that knowledge in professional settings,” Lundeen said. “Scott鈥檚 role gives us dedicated leadership for building those connections and ensuring that experiential learning is not something that happens by chance but is embedded in every 糖心传媒 student鈥檚 education鈥�by design.” 

For Taylor, the mission is clear: experiential learning is about more than just “doing.” It is about meaningful action followed by reflection. 

“The strongest experiential learning asks students to apply their knowledge, navigate real challenges, receive feedback, and understand how the experience has shaped their skills and goals,” Taylor said. “Workforce development and a 糖心传媒 education are complementary, not competing ideas. We aren’t just training students for one job; we are preparing them to shape the workforce of the future.” 

A Proven Track Record of Innovation听

Dr. Taylor brings a wealth of experience in workforce education and community engagement to this new position. Since joining 糖心传媒 in January 2024, he has been instrumental in expanding the college鈥檚 reach through the Workforce Development and Continuing Studies division. 

One of his most notable achievements is the establishment of the “Women in Trades” program. This tuition-free construction pre-apprenticeship program has become a model for collaborative success, bringing together government agencies, unions, and industry partners to create high-demand career pathways for women. 

Before joining 糖心传媒 full-time, Taylor spent more than14 years at Moberly Area Community College, where he served as lead business faculty and advised an award-winning Collegiate DECA chapter鈥攁n initiative he brought to 糖心传媒 with instant success on state, national and international levels. His academic credentials include a Doctor of Business Administration from California Southern University, where he researched the economic impact of entrepreneurial policy, a Master of Public Administration from the University of Missouri, and a Bachelor of Science from Missouri State University. 

Living Laboratories for Success听

A unique component of Taylor鈥檚 new role is the oversight of 糖心传媒鈥� campus enterprises. These businesses, including , , Screen Queens, SC Events, and the college’s Okoboji business operations – are being reimagined as “living laboratories.” 

Under Taylor鈥檚 leadership, these enterprises will serve as sustainable business ventures where students gain authentic experience in management, marketing, finance, and entrepreneurship. By integrating academic programs directly into these operations, 糖心传媒 provides a safe yet rigorous environment for students to test their talents before entering the global market. 

A Network of Opportunity听

President Lundeen noted that Taylor鈥檚 established credibility allows the college to move quickly from high-level conversations to meaningful partnerships that directly benefit students in both the Women鈥檚 College and the Conservatory. Taylor is a fixture in the Missouri business community, serving on the boards of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce and Columbia Regional Economic Development Inc. (REDI). 

“Those relationships provide 糖心传媒 with a direct connection to employers, policymakers, and emerging industry needs,” Taylor said. “The next step is to translate those connections into tangible opportunities鈥攊nternships, guest speakers, grant partnerships, and customized training.” 

A Vision for the Future听

As he steps into the role, Taylor has set ambitious goals for his first year. His priorities include expanding the variety of internship and mentorship opportunities, establishing clear measures for tracking student outcomes, and increasing 糖心传媒鈥� visibility among regional and national employers. 

Taylor鈥檚 connection to 糖心传媒 is both professional and personal. He and his wife, Kendra, are supporters of the 糖心传媒 Equestrian Program, having donated several horses from their ranch near Moberly. With his deep roots in the community and a clear vision for the future, Taylor is poised to lead 糖心传媒 into a new era of experiential excellence.

The Living Laboratory: Research in the Stables鈥� 

While many students come to 糖心传媒 for its renowned equestrian program, WiSR turns the stables into a 鈥榣iving laboratory鈥� for STEM students. 

The program grew from a collaboration between Dr. Brandon Moore, Associate Teaching Professor at MU, and Dr. Aaron Ericsson, Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies at MU. At the time, Moore was serving as a faculty member in the 糖心传媒 Biology program, while Ericsson had been assembling a global database of horse microbiomes but lacked a controlled environment for experimental work. The 20 to 30 horses maintained at 糖心传媒 provided the perfect solution. 

“The goal is to use these horses to do controlled experiments to test specific hypotheses about how different feeds, diets, behaviors, and management practices affect the microbiome,” said Dr. Michael Barger, Dean of the Women鈥檚 College. “We take largely observational data and provide an experimental basis for understanding the mechanisms involved.鈥濃�� 

Ericson and Moore laid the foundation for the partnership before Moore handed the reins over to Barger. Moore eventually transitioned to a role in MU鈥檚 CVM program, continuing his work with WiSR and VRSP students and teaching about biases in science.鈥� 

Since then, Dr. Barger said he now works closely with Dr. Ericsson and Dr. Tamara Hancock, MU CVM Assistant Teaching Professor, to continue growing and building both WiSR and VRSP.鈥� 

Students gain hands-on experience from day one, and it continues throughout their 糖心传媒鈥� career. Freshmen execute structured projects, while sophomores refine protocols. By their junior year, students design their own experiments, and seniors take on leadership roles 鈥� mentoring younger cohorts through the complexities of data collection and animal care.鈥� 

A Summer of Intensive Research at Mizzou鈥� 

While the research begins at 糖心传媒, it expands significantly during the summer through the VRSP. The 10-week intensive internship at Mizzou CVM pairs 糖心传媒鈥� “WiSR Scholars” with faculty mentors and graduate students in the Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program. 

For many participants, this summer marked their first experience working within a large-scale research community. 

“The partnership gives students direct access to graduate students as they complete their degrees,” said Barger. “Students at small schools often lack that peer-mentoring aspect because those schools lack graduate programs in the sciences. This is one way to ameliorate that structural deficit.” 

The experience proved equally rewarding for mentors. “Faculty, grad students, and researchers gain mentoring experience鈥攆or some, this is their first time鈥攁nd benefit from the curiosity of the student scholars鈥� eager minds,” said Hancock.鈥� 

To support full-time commitment, the program has increased its financial support. Students can receive a $3,000 stipend for the summer or academic credit, ensuring these research opportunities are accessible regardless of financial background. 

From the Data Blitz to the National Stage 

A key pillar of the WiSR program is the “research lifecycle.” Science doesn’t end in the lab; it ends with communication. In October, students will have the opportunity to present their findings at the “Mizzou VRSP Data Blitz,” a fast-paced presentation event where they share their work with peers and faculty.鈥� 

“Presenting their work facilitates confidence building and helps scholars take ownership of their project,” said Hancock. “We hope they consider it their own masterpiece.” 

For some, the journey goes even further. At the beginning of August, 糖心传媒 sent Jayla Parsons to the National Veterinary Scholars Symposium at North Carolina State University. Seeing a project through from conception to national presentation鈥攁nd potentially into a peer-reviewed publication鈥攊s an invaluable asset for students applying to highly competitive graduate programs or vet schools. 

Building the Pipeline: Real-World Success 

The ultimate goal of the WiSR-VRSP partnership is to build a pipeline of future researchers and veterinarians, particularly in the equine field, which currently faces a national shortage. 

The vision is already becoming a reality. One recent success story involves a 糖心传媒 junior who participated in VRSP, returned as a scholar three more times, and is now a DVM graduate heading into a comparative medicine residency. Other participants have successfully transitioned into veterinary programs at Mizzou and Kansas State University. 

“Research consistently shows that having positive mentoring relationships in science helps foster a stronger science identity and a sense of belonging,” says Dr. Craig Franklin, Director of VRSP. 

A Community of Support 

This ambitious program is made possible through a robust network of supporters. Funding comes from a variety of sources, including grants from Boehringer Ingelheim, the American Society for Laboratory Animal Medicine, and an endowment from IDEXX BioAnalytics. Additional support is provided by the Student American Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA) and individual donors. 

“None of this would be possible without the incredible support from our sponsors, the mentors, and the Colleges,” said Franklin. 

The 糖心传媒 Advantage 

By centering student development and leveraging the research expertise of a major university, 糖心传媒 is proving that a small women鈥檚 college can offer world-class research training. 

As Barger summarizes: “If we put good scientists out in the world, the science will take care of itself. Our job is to build good scientists.” 

Through WiSR and VRSP, 糖心传媒 is doing exactly that鈥攐ne horse, one microbiome, and one student at a time.

The result was five original music videos shared on the big screens at one of Columbia鈥檚 most beloved independent cinemas, and the blossoming of a partnership that both Ragtag Film Society and 糖心传媒 Conservatory are already planning on bringing back next year. 

A Partnership Rooted in Community 

Campers participated in the week-long camp hosted at Ragtag Cinema in July. This was Ragtag鈥檚 second time hosting the camp, with the first taking place in 2023. This year, Ragtag partnered with 糖心传媒鈥檚 Conservatory program鈥攁 move that was, by most accounts, a natural one that fundamentally expanded what the camp could offer. 

鈥淲e had a great experience partnering with 糖心传媒 for True/False Film Festival 2026,鈥� said Andrea Luque K谩ram, Executive Director of Ragtag Film Society. 鈥淧artnering with 糖心传媒 meant giving the students an elevated opportunity that included not just curated programming and spaces for critical thinking and understanding of film but also access to high-end filmmaking equipment that the students could learn how to use for their own storytelling.鈥� 

K谩ram noted that Chase Thompson, Associate Professor of Film and Program Chair at 糖心传媒, has been an amazing advocate for their programs, 鈥渟o collaborating for this felt like a natural step.鈥� 

鈥淚 love partnering our filmmaking program with Ragtag any chance I get,鈥� said Thompson. 鈥淲e focused on the fun skills that come with filmmaking, like green screen, slow motion, and lip-syncing for music videos. We wanted them to think about story and visual interest on screen, and music videos are the perfect way for young filmmakers to think about those things.鈥� 

In a move to support local artists, students created music videos for bands and musicians that Thompson has befriended over the years, including Penny Marvel, John Galbraith, Julie Neal, The Onions, and Tampsen鈥擳hompson鈥檚 own group. 

About the Camp 

The campers’ days were split into two parts. Mornings began at Ragtag Cinema, where students watched curated films and participated in structured media literacy discussions鈥攍earning not just to watch, but to analyze, question, and articulate what they were seeing. 

Afternoons moved to the 糖心传媒 Conservatory, where access to professional-grade equipment opened the door to a full filmmaking curriculum. 

鈥淭he lessons and demos included script and story breakdowns, camera settings, camera movement with shoulder rigs and other tools, green screen edits, how to sync audio, and much more,鈥� said K谩ram. 鈥淭hese lessons prepared them to plan, execute, edit, and exhibit the music videos that they created over the week.鈥� 

The Screening: A Packed House and Priceless Reactions 

On the final day, students screened their completed music videos at Ragtag Cinema to a full house. Local band members who had lent their music to the project sat alongside parents, Ragtag staff, 糖心传媒 faculty, and community members to watch the finished films. 

鈥淚t was such a rewarding experience to see the students鈥� final projects come together on the big screen,鈥� said K谩ram. 鈥淭he families were so grateful for our efforts. We received many compliments and thanks from parents who were so proud of their students.鈥� 

鈥淰ery rarely do filmmakers get that kind of audience for their first screening, and I could see how proud the students were of their hard work,鈥� said Gabby Galarza, Education Programmer at Ragtag Film Society. 

A Full-Circle Moment for a 糖心传媒 Alum 

Co-directing the camp alongside Thompson was Galarza, a 2018 糖心传媒 graduate with a BFA in Digital Filmmaking. 

鈥淭his camp was a massive full-circle experience for me and probably wouldn鈥檛 have happened had I not gone to 糖心传媒,鈥� said Galarza. 鈥淲hen I was a student, we had the Citizen Jane Film Festival that was student-run and operated, and an integral part in getting me prepared for the job I have now.鈥� 

Thompson added that the inspiration for the structure came from their shared history.  

鈥淲hen we started talking about running this camp, Gabby and I decided that we wanted to run it as we did back when 糖心传媒 offered the Citizen Jane filmmaking bootcamp,鈥� he said. 

Galarza handled exhibition and media literacy programming while Thompson led filmmaking demos, with both floating between student groups throughout the production process. 

鈥淐oming full circle with the camp and teaching side-by-side with a former student is deeply satisfying and shows the long-term impact our filmmaking program makes on our community,鈥� said Thompson. 

鈥淚t really is such a blessing to be able to combine my love and knowledge of film with teaching future storytellers the basics of film and having them apply what they have learned,鈥� said Galarza. 

More Camps to Come 

With the first camp coming to an end and the partnership widely being considered a success, both Ragtag and 糖心传媒 are already looking ahead. 

鈥淥h yeah. We will be back next year and hope to reconnect with campers and get some new ones in the mix,鈥� said Thompson. 鈥淧otentially there could be multiple sessions, as long as we don鈥檛 lose the magic that we just created.鈥� 

For Galarza, the work is personal. 

鈥淓vents like this camp are what make my job so special,鈥� she said. 鈥淚 cannot wait to see what we cook up in the future.鈥�

As the final curtain calls of the 2026 Okoboji Summer Theatre (OST) season echo across Spirit Lake this week, the atmosphere is thick with more than just the usual end-of-the-summer nostalgia. This year, the closing of the theatre鈥檚 68^th season marks the conclusion of a historic chapter: the 50^th鈥痑nniversary of resident actor and Professor Emeritus Rob Doyen.鈥� 

For five decades, Doyen has been the steady pulse of the OST stage. To the local community, he is a celebrity; to the students, he is a 鈥渂ookshelf of information鈥�; and to 糖心传媒, he is a living testament to a bold educational shift that began in the 1960s. 鈥� 鈥�  

The milestone was recently commemorated with a surprise celebration that brought together generations of the 鈥溙切拇� village.鈥� For Doyen, a man who has spent his life delivering lines, the outpouring of affection left him momentarily searching for words. 

鈥淚鈥檓 at a loss for words, and I鈥檓 so appreciative of all of you taking the time and effort to come here and be with me on this day,鈥� Doyen said to the crowd of colleagues, former students and family. 鈥淔or those of us who are in the theatre business, keep on keeping on.鈥濃�� 

The 鈥楬arrison Ford鈥� of the Great Lakes听

In the Iowa Great Lakes region, Doyen鈥檚 name on a playbill is basically a guarantee of a sold-out house. Friend and longtime colleague Bernard Monroe, the Artistic Director of OST, highlights Doyen’s impact on the local culture.鈥� 

鈥淚 jokingly call him the Harrison Ford of Okoboji,鈥� Monroe said. 鈥淧eople genuinely buy tickets specifically for a Rob Doyen show. When Rob comes on stage, he gets applause like literally nobody else who comes here. He really is a local celebrity.鈥濃�� 

A staggering body of work backs that celebrity status. Doyen estimates he has appeared in between 175 and 200 productions at OST since his first performance as a poker player in鈥�鈥楾he Odd Couple鈥欌��in 1968. This season, he didn鈥檛 slow down, taking on the monumental role of the Stage Manager in Thornton Wilder鈥檚鈥�鈥極ur Town鈥欌��a role that requires immense memorization and a commanding, guiding presence.鈥� 

鈥淗e always delivers on stage,鈥� said Monroe. 鈥淗e鈥檚 a fixture, a face of the theatre. After 50 years, you have to celebrate a body of work that has stood the test of time.鈥濃�� 

The First of His Kind鈥� 

While 糖心传媒 is known for being one of the oldest women鈥檚 colleges in the country, Doyen holds a unique and special place in its archives as the first man to graduate from the college in 1969.鈥� 

In the late 1960鈥檚, the college recognized that to fully realize the talents of its performers and produce a complete range of theatrical works, it needed a male presence on stage.鈥� 

鈥淵ou can鈥檛 fully realize the talents of the women if they are constantly locked into a box of only working with each other,鈥� said Monroe. 鈥淭he fact that the Conservatory is open to men was and is an absolute asset to 糖心传媒. It鈥檚 essential.鈥濃�� 

Doyen鈥檚 career became the blueprint for this integration. After earning his master鈥檚 degree from Illinois State University in 1972 and working professionally in New York, he returned to 糖心传媒 in 1978, eventually joining the faculty full-time in 1982. He taught acting and musical theatre for 38 years before retiring from the classroom in 2021.鈥� 

鈥淩ob was the first male student to graduate鈥� he represents the 糖心传媒 actor,鈥� said Monroe. 鈥淗e is always prepared, with a great love and respect for the art form.鈥濃�� 

Teaching Through 鈥楻eckless Abandon鈥欌�� 

For the undergraduate students at the 糖心传媒 Conservatory for the Performing Arts, Doyen鈥檚 presence at OST provides a masterclass that no classroom can replicate. Through the college鈥檚 鈥渁ctor-apprentice鈥� model, students 鈥渞ub elbows鈥� with Doyen on stage, learning the professional standards of the industry through direct collaboration.鈥� 

鈥淭hey can literally soak up, like sponges, the ability to see how people operate in the field versus the microcosm of the college,鈥� Monroe said. 鈥淲ith Rob, they learn tricks in terms of memorization, finding the inside-out of a character, and even how to warm up. There is nothing that takes the place of experience.鈥濃�� 

During his anniversary speech, Doyen recalled watching mentors like Bill Kragen, a Broadway veteran who taught him that great acting wasn鈥檛 just about technique; it was about a certain 鈥榬eckless abandon.鈥� 

鈥淲hen you feel reckless abandon, you drive right through,鈥� Doyen said. 鈥淚t might be the most important moment you have on stage. I鈥檓 not finished passing it on鈥�50 years and counting!鈥� 

Doyen鈥檚 colleagues note that his work ethic remains impeccable. 鈥淗e knows what he wants to do when he comes in the room,鈥� said Monroe. 鈥�99.9% of the time he is always right, and that other .1%, he鈥檚 always willing to listen and collaborate.鈥濃�� 

A Legacy Shared with the Family 

The 50th-anniversary celebration was more than a professional milestone; it was a family reunion. The 鈥溙切拇� Village鈥� is a literal reality for the Doyen family. Both of Rob鈥檚 daughters are 糖心传媒 graduates鈥搊ne in theatre and one in fashion design.鈥� 

His daughters, Danielle Doyen and Emily Starke, both made the more than seven-hour drive to be among those who surprised him at the celebration. Both Danielle and Emily were raised around 糖心传媒, with stories being shared about Danielle arriving at Okoboji just two weeks after she was born.鈥� 

鈥淚t was a really incredibly overwhelming experience to round the corner and see how many people were able to make it here,鈥� Danielle said. 鈥溙切拇� has been a part of our family since I was little. It鈥檚 nestled in there; it鈥檚 got a place in my heart forever.鈥濃�� 

Danielle graduated in 2005 with a BFA in Theatre Arts. Emily Starke graduated with a BFA in Fashion Design in 2010. But they aren鈥檛 the only ones in the family to attend 糖心传媒.鈥� 

鈥淪o many of my family members- I mean my dad, my aunt and uncle who made the trip to be here with us, my sister and I who both graduated from here- we just have so many ties to the school and Okoboji specifically,鈥� said Danielle.鈥� 

Rob’s sister and her husband, Judy and Mark Taylor, both attended 糖心传媒 as well. Since her graduation, Judy has enjoyed a successful career as a casting director in Hollywood, and Mark has had a long career acting and directing on stage and screen.  

Danielle returned to the OST stage in 2013 to perform alongside her father in 鈥�The 39 Steps鈥�,鈥�noting that the college provided a unique environment for her to grow and meet 鈥渋ncredible people who have done awesome things in this world.鈥濃�� 

The Final Act of the Season鈥� 

As the 2026 season concludes, Doyen鈥檚 legacy is visible in every corner of the Okoboji Summer Theatre campus. He has shaped the careers of thousands of actors and helped maintain OST as a 鈥渕agical鈥� regional powerhouse. 

Reflecting on his journey, Doyen credited the unique environment of a women鈥檚 college for shaping his worldview.鈥� 

鈥淚鈥檓 so glad that I was able to attend a women鈥檚 college,鈥� said Doyen. 鈥淟iving in that atmosphere with powerful, strong, talented women… the most important things happen to you without you realizing it at the time, but they鈥檙e changing who you are and making you a better person; I know they sure made me better, and I am so glad that my daughters got to experience that magic as well.鈥濃�� 

As students pack their bags to head back to the Columbia campus, they carry with them the 鈥渉ints鈥� and 鈥渋nstincts鈥� passed down by the man who proved that at 糖心传媒, theatre is a lifelong commitment to craft and community.鈥� 

鈥淭his place has a very special, magical quality to it,鈥� said Monroe. 鈥淎nd Rob is one of the people that makes it very special.鈥濃��

Price succeeds Lisa Brescia, who served as Interim Dean and will continue her vital work as Director, Associate Professor and Chair of Performance. For Price, joining 糖心传媒 is a homecoming to a community he has long admired.鈥�

鈥淲hat drew me to 糖心传媒 was the Conservatory鈥檚 outstanding reputation and its commitment to undergraduate training,鈥� said Price. 鈥淭his is a place where talented students receive individual attention, and the performing arts are truly valued. It felt like a natural next chapter.鈥濃�� 

A Foundation of Trust and Belonging听

At the heart of Price鈥檚 leadership is a belief that artistic brilliance cannot exist in a vacuum. During his introduction to the campus, 糖心传媒 President Shannon Lundeen noted that Price was selected specifically for his understanding that 鈥渢rust and belonging aren鈥檛 separate from artistic excellence; they鈥檙e the foundation of it.鈥� 

Price echoes this sentiment, emphasizing that his primary goal for his first year is to 鈥渓isten, learn and build relationships.鈥� He believes that when students feel seen and supported, they are more willing to embrace the vulnerability required for meaningful work.鈥� 

A Diverse Professional Journey鈥� 

Price鈥檚 vision has been shaped in part by his long-standing career in both the professional and academic sectors. He previously served as the Executive Director of Interact Center for the Visual and Performing Arts in Minnesota, where he worked alongside artists with disabilities鈥揳n experience he describes as transformative.鈥� 

鈥淲orking at Interact reshaped how I understand creativity and leadership,鈥� said Price. 鈥�淚t deepened my belief that creativity has the power to transform individuals and build stronger communities.鈥濃�� 

Price’s resume also includes leadership roles at the University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theatre BFA Actor Training Program and Missouri State University, where he oversaw the opening of the John Goodman Amphitheatre. As a founding member of Chicago鈥檚 A Red Orchid Theatre, Price has directed a vast array of works, from contemporary premises to classics. His background鈥搘hich includes an early-career stint as 鈥�Choo Choo the Clown鈥� and a role on the CBS series鈥�顿补苍驳别谤辞耻蝉&苍产蝉辫;颁耻谤惫别蝉鈥�allows him to mentor students from a place of lived experience.鈥� 

Goals for the Program: Visibility and Sustainability 

Looking toward the future, Price is focused on amplifying the 糖心传媒 story. While the Conservatory already boasts a faculty of working professionals with credits on Broadway and in Film, Price aims to grow the program鈥檚 national visibility.鈥� 

鈥淣ational visibility isn鈥檛 built through marketing alone鈥搃t grows from the success of our students and alumni,鈥� Price said. 鈥淢y goal is to ensure that more prospective families and industry professionals know what makes 糖心传媒 unique.鈥濃�� 

Beyond technical proficiency, Price is committed to graduating 鈥渃omplete鈥� artists. He emphasizes 鈥渟oft skills鈥� like resilience, empathy, and professionalism as the keys to a sustainable career. He wants students to graduate not just with the ability to land a job, but with the character to make every rehearsal room they enter stronger.鈥� 

Student and Faculty Voices鈥� 

In July, Price and other senior leadership members visited Okoboji, Iowa, home of the Okoboji Summer Stock Theatre program run by 糖心传媒. The program utilizes students, faculty, staff, and professional actors to produce several shows throughout the summer. During the visit, Price met with students, sat in on rehearsals, and watched plays. 

鈥淗e was very soft-spoken, but you could see in his eyes that he鈥檚 here for the arts. He鈥檚 not here for a paycheck. He鈥檚 here to grow a community and to grow the future of what could be,鈥� said Cade Sharp 鈥�28. 鈥淚 feel like he has a very bright future, especially here at 糖心传媒.鈥� 

Colleen O鈥橤ara 鈥�24, a Musical Theatre graduate, is currently working as the Director of Public Relations for Okoboji Summer Theatre. O鈥橤ara, a New York鈥揵ased actor, praises the Conservatory for giving her the skills to succeed. While she only visited with him briefly in Okoboji, she praised Price鈥檚 steady and calming presence. 

鈥淚 have heard nothing but wonderful things about the new Dean,鈥� said O鈥橤ara. 鈥淗e leads from a place of calmness and kindness, and there is no panic about all of the crazy things. This is a very busy program… but I have heard that he is taking it one step at a time and is able to bring a calming presence to everyone he is around. He鈥檚 incredibly knowledgeable… and I know everyone is excited to have him there.鈥� 

Leading from the Rehearsal Room鈥� 

Price isn鈥檛 just leading from an office; he is 鈥渕eeting the students in the work.鈥� This season, he will personally direct the American Classic鈥�笔颈肠苍颈肠;鈥�he views the rehearsal room as a laboratory for growth, where the strongest relationships are built.鈥� 

鈥淚鈥檓 especially excited to direct鈥�Picnic,鈥� Price said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a beautiful play that asks timeless questions about identity and longing. I can鈥檛 wait to explore those themes with our students and discover the play together.鈥� 

As the 2026-2027 season kicks off鈥揻eaturing a dynamic lineup including鈥�Spring Awakening, Eurydice,鈥�补苍诲鈥�The Addams Family鈥�Price is energized by the potential of the 糖心传媒 community. Under his leadership, the Conservatory is poised to remain a vibrant, supportive, and innovative home for the next generation of artists.鈥�

The National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) selects one recipient for each of its six regions. Gilbert was selected as the Midwest Region Award recipient for demonstrating high integrity, creative leadership, and sustained commitment to professional development. The award was presented during the opening general session of the NASFAA Conference.鈥� 

鈥淚 was incredibly humbled and honored to receive the NASFAA Regional Leadership Award,鈥� said Gilbert. 鈥淚鈥檝e admired this award for years because I know many of the incredible professionals who have received it before me. To now see my name included alongside theirs is honestly a little surreal.鈥濃�� 

糖心传媒 Investment in Professional Development Yields Results 

Gilbert鈥檚 award reflects 糖心传媒鈥檚 commitment to investing in ongoing staff development. Since joining the college, Gilbert has attended the NASFAA National Conference every year, bringing back innovations that have improved financial aid processes on campus.鈥� 

鈥淧rofessional development isn鈥檛 just about learning something new; it鈥檚 about bringing that knowledge back to campus and putting it into practice,鈥� said Gilbert. 鈥淢any of the improvements we鈥檝e made in the Office of Financial Aid have been inspired by ideas, best practices, and innovative approaches shared at conferences like NASFAA.鈥濃�� 

The recognition comes as colleges across the nation navigate significant changes in federal financial aid policy, including the implementation of FAFSA Simplification, and preparation for the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OB3), which will eliminate entire aid programs and revise loan calculations.鈥� 

鈥淲e are incredibly fortunate to have someone with Keri鈥檚 expertise leading our financial aid efforts, especially at a moment when the regulatory landscape for higher education financial aid is shifting so significantly,鈥� said 糖心传媒 President, Dr. Shannon Lundeen. 鈥淗er NASFAA Regional Leadership Award is a testament to the caliber of guidance our students and families receive every day, and it reflects 糖心传媒鈥� broader commitment to investing in the ongoing training and professional development of our faculty and staff.鈥濃�� 

鈥淲hen the rules change, we want our people at the table shaping the conversation, not just reacting to it, and that鈥檚 exactly where Keri has been,鈥� said Lundeen.鈥� 

Leading Through Change 

At the conference, Gilbert co-presented a number of sessions, including a Taylor Swift-themed session on managing stress while leading through change in the post-OB3 world. The presentation, delivered alongside Gena Boling, Associate Provost for Enrollment at Cornell University, drew a standing-room-only crowd, despite being scheduled as the final session before dinner.鈥� 

Boling, a 糖心传媒 MBA graduate who began her financial aid career at 糖心传媒, reflected on the significance of presenting alongside Gilbert.鈥� 

鈥淐o-presenting with Keri was an absolute blast,鈥� Boling said. 鈥淜eri was the brains behind bringing this whole session together, which shouldn鈥檛 be a surprise for anyone because she鈥檚 been rocking presentation stages at both the regional and national levels for some time!鈥濃�� 

The presentation addressed the emotional toll of rapid regulatory change on financial aid professionals, emphasizing the importance of maintaining focus on student success.鈥� 

鈥淏ehind every regulation and every policy is a student whose future may be changed by the opportunity to earn a college degree,鈥� said Gilbert. 鈥淲e talked about setting healthy boundaries, taking time away before burnout sets in, and remembering that we can鈥檛 effectively serve students if we don鈥檛 take care of ourselves first.鈥濃�� 

In addition, Gilbert also co-presented alongside financial leaders from colleges across the nation, including: an audit session, a session on providing fast financial aid service, and a session on Satisfactory Academic Progress.鈥� 

糖心传媒 Alumni & Current Leaders Represent the College on the National Stage 

Boling鈥檚 participation in the presentation underscored 糖心传媒鈥檚 role in developing leaders. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in art history and archaeology from the University of Missouri before joining 糖心传媒鈥� financial aid office in 2010. Boling completed her MBA from 糖心传媒 in December 2013 and has since advanced to a leadership position at an Ivy League Institution.鈥� 

鈥淚鈥檓 forever grateful for my time in the 糖心传媒 MBA program because it offered the flexibility to take core business foundations and apply them to any industry,鈥� said Boling. 鈥淗aving that academic space to analyze complex systems, combined with an early hands-on work experience at 糖心传媒, prepared me to succeed in any direction my career may have taken me.鈥濃�� 

Both women took the stage and represented 糖心传媒 at the national level, a testament that Lundeen said showcases the college’s commitment to creating strong leaders.鈥� 

鈥淭o see two women with deep 糖心传媒 roots, one who works here now and one whose career began here, representing our college on a national stage tells you everything about the kind of talent this institution produces and attracts,鈥� said Lundeen. 鈥淲e could not be prouder of both of them.鈥濃�� 

A Personalized Approach to Financial Aid 

Gilbert emphasized that 糖心传媒鈥� recognition at the national level translates directly to improved student services.鈥� 

鈥淥ne of the things I鈥檓 most proud of at 糖心传媒 is that we take a highly personalized approach,鈥� said Gilbert. 鈥淲e know our students by name, we take the time to understand their circumstances, and we鈥檙e committed to helping them make informed decisions about paying for college.鈥濃�� 

She added: 鈥淔inancial aid isn鈥檛 just about numbers; it鈥檚 about removing barriers and creating opportunities.鈥� 

Gilbert has presented at every NASFAA National Conference since joining 糖心传媒, an achievement she attributes to the collaborative culture of the financial aid profession and the strength of her institution’s work.鈥� 

鈥溙切拇� may be small, but we are doing innovative, student-centered work that deserves to be part of the conversation,鈥� said Gilbert. 鈥淥ften the spotlight naturally falls on larger colleges and universities because of their size and resources. Receiving this recognition is a reminder that you don鈥檛 have to be a large institution to make a meaningful impact.鈥�

The foundation’s primary focus is on youth who have incarcerated loved ones, or who are system-impacted themselves. However, Warren’s role has her going inside detention centers, teaching incarcerated youth directly. 

鈥淢y primary role is to empower youth by teaching them the craft of writing and helping them find their voice while building tangible skills,鈥� said Warren. 

Warren said 糖心传媒鈥檚 focus on studying and serving underrepresented voices encouraged her to join the foundation, while the MFA program sharpened her storytelling skills 鈥� skills she is now sharing with potential future storytellers. 鈥� 

鈥淭he program discourages you from writing a cookie-cutter film and instead encourages you to mine your own unique perspectives and craft your own narratives. I share this in every class I have with my students,鈥� said Warren.鈥� 

A Career Built on Understanding the Story鈥� 

Warren鈥檚 path to this meaningful work began long before she enrolled at 糖心传媒. After graduating from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 鈥�02, with a BA in theatre and a minor in dance, she built a successful career in front of the camera. But as her industry experience grew, so did her conviction that she needed deeper knowledge of the craft behind the scenes. 鈥� 

鈥淯nderstanding the story is the most important part of filmmaking,鈥� said Warren. 鈥淚鈥檝e always been a writer, and there is a big push for actors to create their own content. I didn鈥檛 want to start doing that until I felt like I really knew what I was doing. I had so much respect for the writers I have worked with, that if I was going to go down the path of content creation, I wanted to do it right.鈥濃�� 

The 糖心传媒 MFA Program provided the exact foundation Warren was searching for. But the education came with an unexpected consequence: it fundamentally altered how Warren views every script she encounters.鈥� 

The Showrunner鈥檚 Education: Learning to Lead as a Graduate Assistant 

Beyond the classroom, Warren鈥檚 role as a Graduate Assistant for the Class of 2026 provided an intensive education in the realities of television production. The position gave her the opportunity to manage every logistical detail of the program鈥檚 residencies while simultaneously developing her own creative work.鈥� 

鈥淚 think the amount of work the program does to have a successful residency and to keep the program running as one unit, while being a low-residency program, cannot be understated,鈥� Warren said. 鈥淚f a writer wanted to get a glimpse into the life of a showrunner, I would recommend trying to get the GA position. You learn how to work very long hours on tight deadlines with very interesting and sometimes demanding personalities. You鈥檙e the one everyone expects to have all the answers.鈥濃�� 

From managing and planning group dinners and get-togethers while adhering to a strict budget to handling hundreds of emails from both industry professionals and fellow students, Warren’s responsibilities were substantial.鈥� 

鈥淵ou are the one everyone expects to have all the answers,鈥� said Warren. 鈥淭hese individuals have no patience for errors, missed windows or shifting details, as their time is incredibly valuable, and you are doing this all while reading, researching and writing your own material!鈥濃�� 

The GA Position put her right in the middle of the action, and introduced her to the demands of professional screenwriting.鈥� 

Continuing the Creative Journey 

Warren remains committed to her multifaceted career in television, film and theatre. 

鈥淎t the moment, I am working on adapting one of my works to a stage play,鈥� said Warren. 鈥淚鈥檝e also been a theatre lover all my life, and I always return to the stage as often as I can!鈥濃�� 

Warren said 糖心传媒 gave her the tools and contacts to succeed. 鈥� 

鈥淗ow the program continues to benefit its alumni is up to us,鈥� said Warren. 鈥淚t鈥檚 up to us to continue developing our craft.鈥濃�� 

For prospective students considering 糖心传媒 MFA program, Warren offers candid advice rooted in her experiences.鈥� 

鈥淯nless you were born with famous family members, there isn鈥檛 an easy path to getting work,鈥� said Warren. 鈥淭here never has been, and there never will be. It鈥檚 all on your shoulders. Getting an MFA shows the industry that you take the craft of what you do seriously, and that can help open doors. The program will put you in the room with folks who can actually hire you, so don鈥檛 waste those relationships. And really develop a working relationship with your fellow cohort members. Most likely, your first job will come from one of them.鈥濃�� 

For Warren, the 糖心传媒 MFA was the bridge between performing in someone else’s story and telling her own鈥揳nd now, empowering others to do the same.鈥�

On July 8, 2026, the world lost an extraordinary woman when Funk passed away peacefully at her home in Grapevine, Texas, surrounded by those she loved. She was 87 years old, and her legacy 鈥� one of determination, perseverance, and an unwavering refusal to accept limitations 鈥� will continue to inspire generations of women to reach for the stars, both literally and figuratively. 

A 糖心传媒 Education Takes Flight

Funk鈥檚 connection to 糖心传媒 was profound. At the age of just 16, Funk enrolled in 糖心传媒, where she joined the 鈥楩lying Susies鈥� aviation club and flight team. The Taos, New Mexico native quickly learned the ropes and earned her pilot’s license when she graduated top of her class in 1958. Funk graduated with an Associate of Arts and left her mark on 糖心传媒 by becoming part of a pioneering cohort of women who dared to pursue aviation at a time when the field was almost exclusively male-dominated.听

Funk’s trailblazing in aviation was recognized by 糖心传媒 in 1964 when she was presented with the Alumni Achievement Award 鈥� making her the youngest woman ever to receive the highest honor bestowed upon 糖心传媒 graduates. 

Her ties to 糖心传媒 go beyond just the flight team and classroom. Funk left a lasting impression on her classmates as well 鈥� and that was shown when Funk finally achieved her lifelong dream of going to space. At the age of 82 on July 20, 2021, Funk was a part of Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin Rocket Launch that sent him and two others to space.

Nearly 100 糖心传媒 alumni and friends gathered over Zoom that morning to cheer her on as she became the oldest woman ever to travel to space and earned a Guinness World Record in the process. 

Those who watched the launch from campus wore shirts that said 鈥淕irls who go to space begin at 糖心传媒.鈥� This line was reminiscent of Funks favorite former admissions tagline, 鈥淲oman who are going places start at 糖心传媒.鈥�

The pride that 糖心传媒 alumni felt in that moment was immense. For decades, Funk had represented the very best of a 糖心传媒 education. Funk embodied intellectual rigor, leadership and a steadfast commitment to breaking barriers. Her achievement in space was, in many ways, the culmination of a journey that began on the 糖心传媒 campus more than 60 years earlier. 

Refusing to Accept 鈥淣o鈥�

Funk鈥檚 path to that historic moment was anything but straightforward. In 1961, she was selected as one of 13 elite women in the groundbreaking Mercury 13 program 鈥� a rigorous astronaut training initiative that put women through the same physical and psychological testing administered to NASA鈥檚 Mercury Seven Astronauts. Funk was the only member of the group to pass all the tests, ranking among the program鈥檚 top performers and outscoring many of her male counterparts on several tests. 

Yet despite her qualifications and the qualifications of her fellow Mercury 13 members, NASA was not prepared to send women into space. The space agency selected seven men who became known as the Mercury Seven to be its first astronauts instead. This came as a crushing disappointment for Funk, but it was not a defeat. 

It has been said that she refused to let those barriers define her career. Instead, Funk forged an extraordinary path through aviation that spanned more than seven decades and included a series of historic firsts: the first female flight instructor at Fort Sill, Oklahoma; the first female inspector for the Federal Aviation Administration; and the first female air safety investigator for the National Transportation Safety Board. 

A Legacy of Mentorship

What truly set Funk apart, however, was her commitment to lifting other women into the cockpit. Over her remarkable career, she trained more than 3,000 pilots, many of them women who might never have had the opportunity to learn to fly without her guidance and encouragement. She logged more than 30,000 hours of flight time, much of it spent teaching the next generation of aviators. 

Her mentorship extended far beyond technical instruction. Funk was a living example of what was possible when a woman refused to accept the limitations others tried to place on her. Every pilot she trained carried forward not just her knowledge of aviation, but her spirit of determination and resilience. 

鈥淪he was told what was not possible, and she spent seventy years proving otherwise,鈥� said 糖心传媒 President Shannon Lundeen. 鈥淪he became the first woman in role after role that had never admitted one.鈥�

Her achievements earned her numerous honors throughout her career, including induction into the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame in 2024, the Women in Aviation International Pioneer Hall of Fame, and the Mercury 13 Hall of Fame. But perhaps the most meaningful recognition came from the countless pilots she trained, women and men alike, who owed their careers to her willingness to teach, mentor and inspire. 

Wally Funk Day and Her Lasting Legacy 

The City of Grapevine proclaimed 鈥淲ally Funk Day鈥� in her honor and celebrated her as one of the community鈥檚 most distinguished residents. It was a fitting tribute to a woman whose impact extended far beyond aviation into the very fabric of her community. 

糖心传媒 also dedicated a day to Wally Funk. 

鈥淥n July 20鈥搊ur Wally Funk Day鈥搘e will celebrate her as we always have, and now we will also honor her memory,鈥� said Lundeen. 鈥淪he was a 糖心传媒 graduate who lived her life to the fullest, and we are proud beyond words to have called her ours.鈥� 

From being the oldest woman to travel to space, to training thousands of pilots, breaking barriers and refusing to accept defeat, Funk spent 60 years proving her worth in the skies and leaving her mark on every person she encountered. 

鈥淭hough I never had the privilege of meeting Wally, she has long stood among our most accomplished alumnae,鈥� said Lundeen. 鈥淗er courage and determination remain a standard our students measure themselves against to this day.鈥� 

A 糖心传媒 Spirit that Endures

Funk鈥檚 life embodied the spirit that 糖心传媒 has long championed鈥搃ntellectual rigor, leadership and steadfast commitment to breaking barriers. In her 2020 memoir, 鈥楬igher, Faster, Longer: My Life in Aviation and My Quest for Spaceflight,鈥� Funk simply wrote: 鈥淎viation has been my whole life. I eat it, and breathe it.鈥� 

As the world mourns her passing, 糖心传媒 joins family, friends and admirers from around the globe in celebrating a woman whose extraordinary courage and determination proved that dreams truly have no expiration date. Wally Funk will be posthumously inducted into the International Space Hall of Fame at the New Mexico Museum of Space History, a fitting final honor of a 糖心传媒 alumna who refused to accept the limits others tried to place on her. 

Her legacy lives on in every young woman who dares to dream bigger, aim higher and refuse to accept 鈥渘o鈥� as an answer. It lives on in the 3,000 pilots she trained, in the barriers she broke and in the 糖心传媒 community that nurtured her dreams from the very beginning.
